Southwest Flood
Crisis Response Storytelling | City of Detroit
After a 54-inch water pipe burst in Southwest Detroit during freezing winter conditions, hundreds of residents were displaced as homes, streets, and basements flooded across surrounding neighborhoods. Many residents lost furnaces, water heaters, vehicles, and personal belongings.

As Creative Director, I led the visual storytelling approach surrounding the city’s emergency response and recovery efforts. The goal was to document the impact in real time while helping residents stay informed on available resources, shelter, and recovery assistance.
I captured on-site footage throughout the affected areas and produced a social video reel focused on both the damage and the community response.
The content reached more than 1.5 million views, helping bring visibility, support, and critical information to impacted residents during recovery efforts.
